As the current Head of School, Mag.a Claudia Atzl, is leaving the International School Kufstein Tirol at the end of the current school year after four years of successful work, the board of the Fachhochschule Kufstein Tirol-Privatstiftung as the body maintaining ISK has advertised the position of Head of School/Principal.
After a structured application process and a hearing on March 9 before a committee consisting of eight people, it was decided to entrust Mr Ian Gregory Barnes BSc, MRes, MTeach with the position "Head of School" of International School Kufstein Tirol as of September 2023.
Ian Barnes comes from the county of Cambridge in South East England. He joined the International School Kufstein Tirol in September 2021 as a teacher and the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein as a lecturer.
He studied at the University of Edinburgh (Master of Research), at the University of London (Master of Teaching) and completed teacher training at the University of Cambridge. Ian worked as a teacher and middle manager in England for several years and has lived in Tyrol since 2007. He is 47 years old, married, has two children and lives in Reith im Alpbachtal. In his "English Institute" in Brixlegg, which he founded 15 years ago, he offers high-quality training and coaching for adults and students - especially for preparation for the Matura or the Berufsreifeprüfung. Ian has travelled extensively around the world and published a book about his experiences in 2008.
A public presentation of the new Head of School will take place at the beginning of the new school year.
